About Health

My grandpa often says that people don't notice their health till they fall ill.And he is right. When we are well,we don't think about it, we just live. But when something is wrong, when we've got a headache,a toothacheor a stomachache,everything changes and we want nothing but to be well again.

I don't know much about illnessesbut sometimes I can catch a coldor have flu.It means the end to my studies at college and trainings for some days, no walks, no friends and that makes me unhappy. That's why I try to keep fit: to go in for sport, eat healthy food, have enough sleep and walks in the fresh air.

The most terrible thing happens in our family when my brother Chris falls ill. He just can't be ill and if he is, he makes all the family feel bad. Last time he was ill two weeks ago. He came home from school early and said he was unwell.

"What's the matter?"mum asked.

"I've gota headache, a sore throatand a runny noseand I think a cough,"he said and coughed a little.

Mum gave Chris a thermometerand told him to takehis temperature.It was 37,8.So my brother really fell ill.

Mum called the doctor. What I like about my brother's illness is that our doctor comes. He's a wonderful man and a very good doctor.

Even Chris does everything he tells him to do. So, soon the doctor came and he and my brother had a talk.

"Hello, Chris, I haven't seen you for ages."

"Hi, doctor."

"What's the matter with you?"

"I've got a headache, a runny nose, a sore throat and I cough too."

"Well, sit down, strip to the waist.I'd like to soundyour lungs...They are O.K. Now will you open your mouth,please? Yes, your throat is sore. And I see that your temperature is high. You've caught a cold, I think."

"Can I stay away from school,doctor?"

"Yes, you should. Gargleyour throat every three hours and have hot tea with honey or raspberryjam."

Chris hates honey but staying away from school makes it much tastier....

After three days my brother was well again. We were happy it was just a cold.

I am happy that all the people in our family are healthy and don't often fall ill. The most important thing that helps us I think is that we are optimistic and cheerful. Illnesses don't like such people.
