Brief overview of Kazakhstan

Located in the central Asia, Kazakhstan occupies an area of 2.7 million square kilometers. It is the ninth largest country in the world. Also, it is the largest landlocked country in the world and twice as compared to the size of four Central Asian states. It is enclosed by Russia (North), Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan (South), Caspian Sea and Russia (West) and China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (East). The country has a coastline of about 1,894 km of the Caspian Sea. Most of the part of Kazakhstan is located in Asia. But a small part of the country is located in Eastern Europe.

Kazakhstan mostly consists of steppe land occupied by hills and plateaus. The Kazakh steppe covers almost one third part of the country and occupied by areas of grasslands and sandy regions. The Aral Sea, Balkhash Lake, Zaysan Lake, Ural River, Ishim River, Irtysh River, Syrdariya River, Charyn River and the Ili River are important lakes and rivers finding their way in Kazakhstan. The Kazakhstan has 80 km long and 150-300 meters deep Charyn Canyon that stretches itself along the Charyn River and cuts through a red sandstone plateau.

Climate:

Kazakhstan experiences a continental type of climate with hot summers and cold winters. The country has got a comparatively dry weather. Temperatures are mild in spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) and rise up remarkably in July (hottest month). Snowfall is observed during November and lasts till April in the mountainous regions.

Culture:

A culturally different land, the country permits the freedom of religion. Although, Islam is the main religion, the country also agrees to Orthodox Christianity and many other different beliefs without restrictions. Kazakhs are the biggest group of people living in Kazakhstan. Russians occupy the second position in the country’s population who are then followed by Germans, Tatars, Ukrainians and Uzbeks. People of Kazakhstan speak Kazakh; Russian is also spoken in some parts.
