Conferences

SIAM conferences focus on timely topics in applied and computational mathematics and applications such as ocean and climate modeling, computer and communications networks, financial engineering, combustion, modeling of materials, the application of mathematics and computation to the life sciences, and discrete algorithms in computer science. SIAM conferences provide a place for members to exchange ideas and to expand their network of colleagues in both academia and industry.

The SIAM Annual Meeting provides a broad view of the state of the art in applied mathematics, computational science, and their applications through invited presentations, prize lectures, minisymposia, short courses, and contributed papers and posters. A SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE GERMAN ACADEMIC

EXCHANGE SERVICE (DAAD)

In Germany we are proud to have a special organization which deals with all matters concerning international university relations, the DAAD, the German Academic Exchange Service. I intend to give a short overview of my organization because I believe that the DAAD could and should be the partner for more students from NSTU.

The DAAD is

· an organization of the institutions of higher education and student bodies in the Federal Republic of Germany, founded in 1925, refunded in 1950

· an institution for the promotion of international academic exchanges

· an intermediary for the implementation of foreign cultural and academic policy as well as for the educational cooperation with developing countries

· national agency for the EU programmes SOKRATES, LEONARDO and TEMPUS

The DAAD provides information on

· the system of education and higher education in the Federal Republic of Germany

· higher education and degree courses abroad

· funding programmes and scholarships (information is also available in over 50 publications produced by the DAAD with a total print-run of 929, 650 copies)

The DAAD sponsors

· undergraduates

· postgraduates

· academics

from Germany and abroad in over 100 different programmes.
