EATING OUT / В РЕСТОРАНЕ

1. What can go wrong when you eat out in a restaurant? Think about and make your list of ideas.

2. There are four conversations in a restaurant. In each case there is a problem. Are any of the problems on your list from Ex. 1?

Follow the conversations. Match each one to the problems below.

Conversation 1

 

A: Can I order you some squid?

B: Squid? That sounds, er ... interesting.

A: Yes, it’s our local speciality. It comes in a black sauce made from the squid’s ink.

B: Does it? Oh, what’s this?

A: Beef Meonoise? That’s just a steak.

B: Can I have that?

A: Of course, if that’s what you want.

Conversation 2

A: What do you want to eat? They do an excellent steak here.

B: Er ... I’m afraid there’s a problem.

I don’t eat meat. I’m a vegetarian.

A: Are you? Oh, I’m sorry. Would you like to go somewhere else?

B: No problem. I eat fish.

A: Right, well, the fish is good here as well.

Try this. It’s cooked in white wine.

B: It sounds delicious.

Conversation 3

A: This is one of my favourite restaurants.

B: Yes, it’s a nice place.

A: Their speciality is fish.

B: Fish?

A: Yes, they do it really well.

B: Oh dear. I’m afraid I’m allergic to fish. I can’t eat it.

A: Ah ... I’m sorry.

B: No, don’t worry. I can have a salad or something.

Conversation 4

A: Right, that’s the food. What about something to drink?

B: Just water for me, please.

A: Oh, come on. We can have a bottle of wine to celebrate.

B: No. reallv. Order some for yourself.

I don’t drink alcohol, you see.

A: Oh right. Er ... waiter, a bottle of water and, er ... a beer for me.

 

3. Complete the conversations.

A Good afternoon, sir.

A Ah yes. Mr Cruy. That's right. Is this table okay?

BI`m sorry. Iknow our reservation is for a table for two but now there
