The dual channel system or red / green system was introduced at international airports to simplify customs control and improve the flow of passengers. The system allows passengers to choose between red and green channels.
If you have no goods or only goods which can be admitted free of import duties and taxes and which are not subject to import restrictions, go straight through the green channel. The red channel is for other passengers.
Each channel is clearly marked to choose between them.
The basic marking is:
- for the channel referred to as “green” – the words “nothing to declare”
- for the channel referred to as “red” – the words “goods to declare”
Passengers who have chosen the green channel are not subject to any other customs formalities unless they are subject to a spot check. In the red channel passengers accomplish all formalities required by Customs.
