Text 1. My Family and Our Daily Routine

Hi! My name is Amelia but my friends and my family call me Amy. Do call me Amy! I am in my first year at college now and last year I was at school likemy brother Christian (everybody calls him Chris). I am 18 and Chris is 4 years my junior.The other members of my family are our mother, father and grandfather. Our grandmother died long ago. Our parents are both college teachers and our grandpa has just retired on pension.He was an engineer with a big company. I can't say we are an ideal family but we always try to understand each other, and I think we get along well.

Our life is quite usual. Our grandpa is the first to get upand the first to go to bed. He likes to repeat "Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise".To tell the truth, he is not quite wealthy but he's healthy for his age (and he's 72!), and he is very wise.Our grandpa makes morning tea and that's all we do to have breakfast. Cereal,toast, an apple or an orange and a cup of tea or coffee is quite enoughto feel fine till lunch.

I try to keep fit.That's why I do exercises in the morning and go to the gymin the evening twice a week.After morning exercises I brush my teeth, take a shower, have breakfast and leave home. My college is a long way from our place and it takes me about an hour to get there. Sometimes when my dad delivers a lectureat the beginning of the day, he gives me a lift.It's very good as I can stay in beda little longer.

My classes begin at nine. We study on weekdays. Saturdays and Sundays are our days off. Next year we'll have our first practice and work at weekends. But this year I enjoy two days of rest a week. In fact I can only relaxon Sundays as on Saturdays I always have some homework and housework to do. We usually have four periods of classesa day. After the second period we have a lunch break. My friends and I like to go to the canteenor to the cafe nearby.They always have very tasty vegetable salads there and we like to have lunch there thoughit is more expensive than in the canteen. When our classes are over,we sometimes go to the gym. As for me, I like to play table tennis there. From tome to time after classes we do some scientificwork or organize parties or meetings.

I like it when evening comes and all my family gather at home. We can't often meet at lunch or at tea time but we try to have evening meals together. It's nice when nobody is in a hurryand we can discuss the day and make plans. Later in the evening after doing everything for my college classes, I read a book or use the Internet. It's the best time of the day! At about 11 p.m. I take a shower and airmy bedroom. It's time to go to bed.
