Непривілейований і привілейований режими

В режимі EXEC можливо виконання команд двох основних рівнів. Команди першого рівня виконуються в непривілейованому режимі. Непривілейований режим позначається символом «більше» (>), який розміщується в командному рядку після імені пристрою, як показано нижче:

Router>

В цьому режимі користувачу дозволено отримувати інформацію про стан пристрою, який працює під керуванням IOS, але у нього немає можливості змінювати які-небудь параметри пристрою.

Другий рівень містить команди привілейованого режиму, відомого також під іменем дозволеного режиму (enable mode). Для того, щоб увійти в цей режим, необхідно знати системний пароль, заданий командою enable secret. Щоб переключитися з непривілейованого режиму у привілейований, необхідно ввести команду enable:

Router>enable
Password:
Router#

У наведенному вище прикладі після видачі запросу пароля у відповідному командному рядку вводиться пароль привілейованого режиму, який не повторюється на екрані терміналу. При зміні режиму на привілейований система позначає це заміною в командному рядку символу «>» символом «#». Для того щоб перейти з привілейованого режиму в непривілейований, слід ввести команду режиму EXEC disable:

Слід відмітити, що у привілейованому режимі користувачеві доступна більша кількість команд, ніж у непривілейованому, що і показує система допомоги.

Також у привілейованому режимі збільшується кількість доступних опцій для деяких команд, які були доступні і в непривілейованому режимі. Наприклад, команда show у привілейованому режимі здатна надати набагато більше інформації про поточний стан пристрою і різних його підсистем:
