II. Do the exercises.

1) Use the necessary past tenses.

1. Bert Fellows sold his farm to Abe Mitchell and moved to another farm. Two weeks (to pass) before he (to discover) that he (to leave) his best corduroy pants in the old house. Bert (to think) the matter over two or three days and he (to decide) to go to his friend whom he (to know) for many years and ask him to let him go up attic and take the pants.

6. In the courthouse Bert said that he (not to steal) the pants. He (to take) his own pants.

7. When they (to return) home, Bert (to say) that he (to want) to take such a trip for a year or more.

8. Bert (to be) sorry for Abe as Abe (to pay) 25 dollars for nothing.

2) Open the brackets.
