At this stage the teacher explains the difficulties of the text (the most difficult sentences, the meaning of separate words), does drill exercises based on the text, and introduces new words and grammar.
The following activities are done at this stage:
1. Introduction of the new words.
2. Comprehension assessment of the new words in sentences from the text with visual illustrations.
3. Reading the most difficult sentences.
4. Working with the most difficult grammar structures used in the text, their recognition, differentiation etc.
5. Thematic arrangement of the words from the text given on the list.
6. Asking all kinds of questions about the most difficult sentences from the text.
7. Lexical test.
8. Dictation.
9. Reading one of the passages of the audio text.
Pre-listening orientation.
1. Answer the following questions after listening.
2. Give the text a title, correct the wrong statements etc.
The 2-nd stage. Listening to the text.
While listening students can do the following activities:
1. Make an outline of the text.
2. Reproduce the context in which the key word is used.
3. Paraphrase.
4. Answer the questions.
5. Listen to the text again.
6. Choose the key words or phrases.
After-listening activities:
1. Question-answer exercises.
2. Making an outline of retelling the text.
3. Word by word, compressed etc. retelling.
4. Commentaries on the text.
5. Extension of the text.
6. Making up a story by analogy.
7. Making up a situation based on the text.
8. Making up a dialogue based on the text.
9. Description of pictures illustrating the contents of the text.
