Albert Lewis:Hey.

Chris:Where were you?

Albert Lewis:Far away. I got called back. I was working.

Chris:There are no words to thank you. For finding Marie. Is she okay?

Albert Lewis:Marie’s fine. You’ll see her again real soon. She sends her love. Especially now. We’ll gonna go through something very hard right now. I’m with you. You’re not alone. Chris, Annie is dead. She killed herself. It’s… It’s nothing I ever expected.

Chris:Like I said you don’t know us. Is that an occupational hazard of soul mates? One’s not much without the other? But she’s okay. You know, because her pain is over.

Albert Lewis:You don’t understand.

Chris:She won’t cling like me.

Albert Lewis:You don’t understand.

Chris:When do I see her?

Albert Lewis:Never. You’ll never see her. She’s a suicide. Suicides go somewhere else.

Chris:Why are you punishing her for?

Albert Lewis:No, it’s not punishment.

Chris:She’s suffered enough.

Albert Lewis:No, no. There are no judges or crimes here. Everybody’s equal. Just reality. That’s the way things work.

Chris:And in the reality suicides go to hell? No goddamn judgment in that!

Albert Lewis:You wanna fight? You can hide from it or you can understand it. What you call hell is for those who don’t know they’re dead. They can’t realize what they’ve done, what’s happened to them. Too self-absorbed in life that they…

Chris:Self-absorbed?! That doesn’t apply to Annie, all right? No, it doesn’t.

Albert Lewis:Suicides are different. Suicides don’t go to hell because they’re immoral or selfish. They go there for a very different reason. Each of us has an instinct, and there’s a natural order to our journey. And Annie has violated that. She won’t face it. She won’t realize, accept what she’s done. And she will spend eternity playing that out.

Chris:You still say she’s in hell.

Albert Lewis:Everybody’s hell is different. It’s not all fire and pain. The real hell is your life gone wrong.

Chris:I’m her soul mate. I can find her.

Albert Lewis:You don’t understand how…

Chris:It’s not about understanding! It’s about not giving up. You said there are no rules. About that purple tree’s spot. You were pretty surprised then. Hey, if there are no rules, how can you say all suicides are the same?

Albert Lewis:I can’t.

Chris:It’s a rule.

Albert Lewis:I can’t.

Chris:Okay. And how can you say that Annie can’t realize she’s dead.
