Exercise 1 Read the sentences and in pairs say if you agree or disagree with them.

Exercise 3 Idioms. Guess the meanings of cloth idioms.

a) Look at the highlighted idioms and try to guess their meanings.

2 That suit fits her like a glove. Did she have it especially made for her?

3 He will have to pull his socks up if he wants to pass the exam.

4 That sounds like a difficult situation. I wouldn’t like to be in your shoes.

Exercise 4 You're going to listen to four people talking about the typical characteristics of people from their country (England, Ireland, Scotland, and the USA). Before you listen, with a partner try to predict what positive and negative characteristics the speakers might mention [Part III p. 153], [1, T 2.1, 2.2, p.122].

a) Listen (2.1) and try to match the speakers 1-4 with their nationality. Use their accent and what they say about people from their country to help you.
