Lecture № 2-3. Structure and function of the cell nucleus
1. Structure and function of the cell nucleus.
2. Structure and chemistry of the cell nucleus.
3. Structure and function of the nucleolus and the nuclear envelope.
Kernel (nucleus) cells - a system of genetic determination and regulation of protein synthesis. The kernel provides two groups of common functions: one associated with the actual storage and transmission of genetic information, and the other - with its implementation, ensuring protein synthesis.
Storage and maintenance of genetic information in the form of unchanged structure of DNA associated with the presence of so-called repair enzymes, eliminates spontaneous DNA damage. In the nucleus occurs reproduce or reduplication of DNA molecules, which makes it possible during mitosis two daughter cells receive exactly the same in qualitative and quantitative terms, the volume of genetic information.
The structure and chemical composition of the cell nucleus
Kernel nondividing, interphase cells usually one per cell (though there are multinucleated cells). The core consists of chromatin, nucleolus, karyoplasm (nucleoplasm) and the nuclear envelope that separates it from the cytoplasm.
