Plane facilities and comfort on board the plane

I shan’t be far out in saying that nowadays passenger airliners are of various configurations. As far as I know an aircraft may have only one class –economy or tourist; two classes, for example, first and economy or three classes, when there is an extra class between the first and economy passenger cabins which is called by different airlines –business, executive, club and so on.What concerns our airliner Boeing 737 it has one class only – economy or tourist. The fuselage consists of the following main parts: a cockpit, one passenger cabin, two galley pantries and three toilets.

The floor in the passenger cabin is usually coveredwith synthetic fabrics and a strip of the carpet on it. The windows have an oval form. The passenger can close them with the window blind (window shade / rigid blind) ina sunny weather. There arealso overhead bins (baggage racks/stowage compartments) along the cabin walls. They can be used for some small and light articles such as a handbag, a briefcase, a camera, an umbrella, jackets, raincoats and overcoats. On the underside of the overhead bin you can see the passenger service units: an individual vent and light, a steward call button and two notices:”No smoking” and “Fasten the seatbelt”.

Speaking about the passenger cabin I’d like to mark that passenger seats or chairs are numbered inrows from the nose of the aircraft to the tail and lettered from right to left. Each passenger chair is provided with all necessary comfort features including

· a sliding ashtray,

· a push-button for reclining the seatback to its fully upright or comfortable position,

· safety belts

· and a meal tray or a tray-table in the seatback in front of a passenger.

Besides that there are two galley-pantries where cabin attendants can prepare everything for meal service. One galley is located in the forward while another one is in the aft of the airliner. Both galleys are providedwith

· cold water supply,

· electric boilers or coffeemakers

· and heating ovens.

By the way there is a special panel with switches, stewardess’s micro and a telephone here. There are alsojump-seats with their seatbeltswhich CAs can useat take-off, onlanding and duringnight flights.

As I know the number of lavatories depends onaircraft type. On board Boeing 737 there are three toilets. One toilet is in the front part, but two others are in the rear part of the plane. Needless to say all toilets are clean and meetall sanitary requirements. Each one is fitted with

· a washbasin with cold and hot water supply,

· a watercloset pan treated with chemicals,

· a cabinet for toilet paper,

· paper towels,

· a small bar of soap or a small box with liquid soap,

· a mirror,

· an air sprayer,

· an electric socket for an electric razor,

· a loudspeaker and a steward call button.
