PRONOUNS

PERSONAL, POSSESSIVE AND REFLEXIVE PRONOUNS

 

Ex.1 (elementary level). A.Fill in the gaps with suitable personal pronouns.

E.g.: Take these books and read them at home, please.

C (а creative task). Suggest your partner a sentence with such or so. He should paraphrase it using such instead of so or so instead of such. You can use the following words in your sentences:

Nouns: boy, girl, weather, friend, idea, walk, car, classroom, bed, song, animal, film, story, tree, house, street etc.

Adjectives: good, busy, bad, clever, big, comfortable, nasty, sunny, naughty, devoted, long, interesting, quick, light, large, merry, sad, boring, high, low, short etc.

E.g.: He is such a good boy. – This boy is so good.

The bed is so comfortable. – It is such a comfortable bed.

Ex. 2. Substitute thatorthose for a repeated noun.

E.g.: You will not find better flowers here than the flowers in the central park. – You will not find better flowers here than those in the central park.

1. The music composed by Mozart and the music composed by Churlionis are very different. 2. The English of Great Britain is more accurate than the English of the States. 3. I like stories by O’Henry more than the stories by Mark Twain. 4. I prefer sweets made with honey to the sweets made with sugar. 5. Natural silk is of higher quality than the silk produced artificially. 6. He is interested in the history of his country much more than in the history of the whole world. 7. I spend the holidays of winter in a much more interesting way than the holidays of spring. 8. There are no richer museums than the museums of St. Petersburg. 9.
