Land resources have some peculiarities in comparison with other kinds of natural resources.
ü It is impossible to transfer them.
ü Resources are exhaustible and bordered upon definite territory (district, country, etc.).
ü At the definite time, some parcel of land can be occupied by building, tillage or pasture in spite of the wide multipurpose character of usage.
The notion of land gives the general idea about land resources. Land is a set of all lands within one or another territory (from a small territory to all earthly land), which is divided for the economic type of usage. In more wide approach, the planet land is estimated in 149 million km2, or 14,9 billion hectare, which corresponds to all land area.
Let make some important conclusions.
ü First of all, agricultural lands occupy 37% of the world lands. Only 11% correspond to the most important lands for the tillage and permanent grasses that support 88% of necessary food stuff.
ü Secondly, forest lands occupy almost 32% of all the world land. Climate-shaping, water protection and forestry-economic importance of these lands is very large. But their role is secondary in supply of the food stuff (during hunting, fishing, pasturing, animal breeding, berrying, etc.).
ü Thirdly, other lands have such percentage, as forestry lands.
