I. Give Ukrainian equivalents of the following words and word-combinations.

To proclaim independence; statehood principles based on law; national security and defense; to adopt the Constitution; foundations of the political system; sovereign, independent, democratic, social and jural state; envisages the principle of political, economic and ideological diversity of social life; to establish and promote human rights and freedoms; unitary state; single citizenship; the State Coat of arms; to act in behalf; secret vote; the supreme executive authority; principles of territorial and special jurisdiction.

II. Say if the following statements are true or false. Correct the false statements to make them true.

1. The Ukrainian Constitution was adopted in 1992.

2. General foundations of the political system of Ukraine are defined by its Constitution.

3. Ukraine is a unitary state, in which its territory is integral and inviolable.

4. The State Flag of Ukraine is a banner of two equally-sized vertical bands of blue and yellow.

5. The President is a guarantor of national sovereignty, territorial integrity, adherence to the Constitution, human and civil rights and freedoms.

6. 450 people’s deputies of Ukraine are elected by the citizens of Ukraine on the basis of proportional election system.

III. Tell your fellow-students about the requirements and restrictions to the candidate on the post of the President of Ukraine, using the following information.

Requirements: · 35 years of age; · right to vote; · resided (проживав) in Ukraine for the last ten years prior to the elections; · has command of the state language.

Restrictions: · serve the position more than two consecutive (послідовні) terms; · have another representative mandate; · hold office in bodies of state power or in citizen associations; · perform any other paid or entrepreneurial activities.
