A. Decide if the following pairs of sentences are CAUSE and EFFECT or only CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER.

1.Mary has a vitamin С deficiency. Mary has a skin disease.

2.John cut his finger with a sharp knife. John's finger bled.

3.The Jones family went to the movies last Saturday. The Jones children ate popcorn at the movies.

4.Peter's car ran out of gas. Peter had to walk to the nearest gas station.

5.Peter's girl friend hit him on the head with her handbag. Peter's car ran out of gas on the way to the beach.

B. Join each of the pairs of sentences to form one sentence which clearly indicates the relationship between the two parts. Use the following expressions.

6.Each state has its own school system.
