PERFORMING ARTS IN THE MODERN WORLD

Pre-reading task

I. Read the definitions of the words ‘perform’ and

‘art’ and say what youconsider ‘performing arts’ to be.

PERFORM – to act a play, to play music, to do tricks etc. before an audience with the entertaining purpose

[6; p. 117].

ART – the creation or expression of what is beautiful, especially in visual form; fine skill or aptitude in such expression [6; p. 43].

While formulating your understanding of the ’performing arts’, make use of the following conversational formulas:

1. I believe…; 6. As far as I can judge…;

III. Read the text about theatres, concentrate on different types of them and make a list of different theatre genres, mentioned in it.
